England v Australia Tickets - Autumn Internationals 2010

The Rugby Union Autumn Internationals kick off on Saturday, with the home nations taking on some of the best in the World. Martin Johnson’s England has been ravaged by injury, and there are a good seven or eight potential starters which have not even made the squad. This has thrown the selection doors wide open for fringe players and debutants. One famous name though has been selected for the first time since March 2008, and that is the irrepressible uber-hero Jonny Wilkinson. The legend that is Jonny Wilkinson has found a new lease of life this season with his new club, French side Toulon, where he has managed to stay free of injury. After being plagued for six years with injury after injury, Wilkinson has recently stated that he is better than he has ever been. Australia coach Robbie Deans has cited to the press, what a difference having to play against a team with Wilkinson in it will be.

Only three of the 2005 World Cup Winning side remain in the squad, with Wilkinson being one of them, Steve Thompson and Lewis Moody being the others. For followers of England Rugby, there may be a lot of unfamiliar names lining up to take the National Anthem at Twickenham on Saturday. As well as Jonny Wilkinson’s comeback is welcome, hooker Steve Thompson’s return to the full international fold is even more remarkable. After retiring from the game due to a neck injury in 2007 Thompson has rebuilt his career to reach the pinnacle again. The likes of Thompson and Wilkinson, who have bags of experience, will be vital components to balance the youngsters in the squad.

So much change has there been, that from the loss against Australia earlier in the year, only four members of that team will be on display on Saturday. A lot of the changes have been enforced due to injury, but one would hope that coach Martin Johnson, an England legend in his own right, will be seeing this as the first building block towards the next World Cup. A lot of work has to be done between now and then, and it is a good chance to see how some youngsters are developing, and how they can cope with the pressures on the International stage. The longer that Johnson can keep a cohesive unit together, the stronger England will be.

There will be two debutants on show for England in the starting 15, that of Shane Geraghty, who has been impressive at centre for his club Northampton, and at the back of the pack there will be a new number eight, with Jordan Crane taking up the important role. Two new caps start on the bench, Courtney Lawes and Ayoola Erinle.

Ireland V Samoa Tickets

Pat Richards scored 22 points, including a hat-trick of tries, as Ireland produced the shock of the World Cup to reach the knockout stages for the second successive tournament.

Ireland, who beat Samoa on their way to the quarter-finals in 2000, stunned the highly-fancied Pacific Islanders with one of the bravest performances in World Cup history to move to within 80 minutes of a semi-final clash with defending champions Australia.

Andy Kelly's heroes needed to win by six points at Parramatta Stadium to top pool C on points difference but emerged from a bruising and, at times, brutal, encounter with a handsome victory margin that befitted their courage and determination.

Wales v South Africa

Wales are set to take on World Champions South Africa this June, in a showcase match that will celebrate ten seasons of rugby at the Millennium Stadium.

South Africa were Wales opponents back in June 1999 when the stadium first opened and Wales recorded their only ever victory over the Springboks.

Mr Oregan Hoskins (president of the SA Rugby Union) was quoted as saying: "As we opened the stadium ten seasons ago, it was only appropriate that the Springboks should be the nation to mark the anniversary"

Wales will play the Springboks for a second time this year when they meet on 13th November as part of the Autumn International campaign.

Ireland Vs South Africa

The Ireland and South Africa rugby union teams have a rivalry dating back to 1906. Until recently, South Africa have dominated the meetings, with the Irish only having achieved four victories. However, their last three meetings have resulted in Irish victories.

2006 Autumn Internationals
:

The day of the match was a clear, wintry day, but as the late kick off time of 5pm approached, the infamous 'swirling winds of Lansdowne Road' began to blow. South Africa won the toss and chose to play into the wind in the first half, starting the game with a fine display of running rugby. On their first visit to the Irish half, they returned with points as their out half Andre Pretorius kicked a penalty into the wind. The Irish responded with a barging run by Denis Leamy who made the hard yards before passing to Ronan O'Gara, who then passed back inside to Andrew Trimble who found his way over for Ireland's first points.

From there, Ireland scored two more tries and ended the first half 22-3 ahead. South Africa played better in the second half and debutant winger Francois Steyn showed good pace to score in the corner, but out half Andre Pretorius failed to convert the try. Bryan Habana who usually plays at winger, but who played this match in the position of outside center, showed his speed and guile by scoring a remarkable solo try. Any thoughts of a South African revival were stamped out when Girvan Dempsey set up Shane Horgan for a try in the 76th minute. Ronan O'Gara scored the last points of the match with the conversion for a final score of 32-15.

Gavin Henson 'ready' for rugby return

Gavin Henson is set to hand Wales a World Cup boost as the British and Irish Lions centre could return from indefinite leave next season.

The Ospreys superstar has been on a rugby sabbatical since an ankle injury in their EDF Energy Cup semi-final defeat by Gloucester in March 2009.

The double-Grand Slam winner's career has consistently been in doubt since.

But Ospreys chief Mike Cuddy told a newspaper that the 28-year-old will return for club and country next term.

Lion Finally Returns - Autumn Internationals 2010

Mike Phillips made his long awaited comeback from injury on Sunday afternoon.

One of the stars of the 2009 Lions tour of South Africa, Phillips has been out of action since October.

The 27-year-old damaged ankle ligaments in the Ospreys' Heineken Cup win over Clermont Auvergne and has missed a host of important matches for club and country in the four months that have followed.

As well as being absent for the final four rounds of the Ospreys' European action and the majority of the Magners League campaign to date, Phillips has also been unavailable for Wales' autumn internationals against New Zealand, Samoa, Argentina and Australia and the Six Nations games with England and Scotland.

But the man who started all three Tests for the Lions against the Springboks in June and July last year finally returned with a substitute appearance in the Ospreys' narrow win over Connacht yesterday.

And, although Phillips admits he now has to prove himself all over again, he has already targeted a place in the Wales squad prior to the end of the Six Nations.

"I have been training really hard and the ankle feels fine," said Phillips.
